Chapter 17

At the breakfast table, Calliope glanced at Silas, words hanging on the tip of her tongue.

"If you've got something to say, just say it. I don't bite," Silas remarked, his eyes lifting slightly with a hint of mischief. "Treat me like you would anyone else."

"It's not that I'm afraid of you..." Calliope raised her head. "It's just- I'm not quite used to it yet."

"You'll get used to it in time," Silas assured her. "Let's have breakfast first. Afterward, I'll introduce you to a few people."

"Okay," Calliope mumbled, focusing on her breakfast of pancakes and maple syrup.

Silas watched her with a gentle patience, a slight smile playing on his lips.

He would help her adjust. Slowly but surely, she would come to know him better. This time, he wouldn't let her slip away.

After breakfast, Calliope was led out to the courtyard outside the main house. To her surprise, she found a group of people already gathered there.
