"It was all their idea!" Gabriel stared at Silas, desperately trying to convince the man in front of him to let him off the hook.

The last thing he wanted was to get in trouble because of those two fools, Gideon and Fleur. Right now, he wished he had never met them; they were nothing but trouble.

Silas glanced at Gabriel, his expression unreadable. "So what you're saying is, if you didn't know who she was, you would've gone after her anyway?"

Gabriel's face went pale.

"No! I mean, I was duped by them! I only went after Ms. Jewell because I believed what they told me," he stammered, his voice shaky. "Mr. Myers, I made a mistake. I was misled by them."

Gabriel's eyes darted around, betraying his panic. When they messed with Calliope, he had assumed she would be too afraid to let Silas know. They never imagined Calliope was so resourceful or that Silas would arrive so quickly.

"Gabriel, you spineless coward!" Fleur snapped angrily. "You claimed you could help us, and now you're backing out? You were the one giving advice too. Don't act like you're innocent now!"

Gabriel shot Fleur a venomous look. "If I don't distance myself from you, I'm a dead man. You guys crossed the wrong person-Mr. Myers! Once upon a time, Mr. Myers had high hopes for Gideon, but Gideon blew his chance, not my fault!" Silas turned his icy gaze to Fleur. "Was it you who came up with the plan?"
