Chapter 357:

“How come you are not aware of Cathy’s terminal illness?” Belinda inquired, a hint of mischief in her tone as she watched the confusion unfold on Kristopher’s face and the shock on Evelyn’s. “Miss Miller has been rushing to the hospital every other day,” Belinda continued, her smile widening. “She’s been gasping for air, struggling to breathe, and fainting at the slightest emotional upset… And you, her mother, really had no idea?”

Evelyn’s complexion grew pale. “I…,” she began, but her words were cut short as the door to the tea room swung open with urgency.

A maid, appearing to be around Evelyn’s age, burst in, her expression fraught with anxiety. “Madam, there’s been a development in the basement. The doctor says that Cathy’s sister’s condition is concerning, and she…”

“Avery!” Evelyn’s voice cracked with panic as she saw the maid about to disclose more than intended about another matter entirely.

She stood abruptly, her eyes darting signals to Avery to remain silent. “What has happened to Cathy? Isn’t she supposed to be resting? Has she awoken?”

Avery hesitated, her attention drawn to the other two occupants in the tea room. She quickly realized her slip and glanced nervously at the guests.
