Love at the Wrong Table

Chapter 2131 The Scattered Wolf Warriors

“What’s the plan now, Your Holiness? Command us!” Falcon’s voice was tense with nerves and adrenaline. For the Wolf Warrior Unit, this was their first encounter with a battle of this magnitude since departing Dark Night Island.

“Fire at will! Take them down!” Mackenzie commanded without a moment’s hesitation.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The machine guns roared to life, spitting bullets down the snowy mountain path. Cultists from the Five Poison Sect fell one after another, but the chaos was far from contained. Some used the smoke and confusion to slip through unnoticed, emerging from the snowbanks with startling speed.

To make matters worse, stray gunfire struck the venomous toads scattered across the battlefield. The creatures exploded on impact, spraying toxic green liquid into the air.

The sickly stench spread quickly, choking the soldiers and turning their stomachs.

“Blargh-” Several Wolf Warriors stumbled, gagging and retching as the foul smell clung to the air. Their focus faltered, and the risk of poisoning grew by the second.

“Your Holiness, we must retreat now!” Falcon insisted, his face showing grim.

Falcon wasn’t known for being the most upstanding back on Dark Night Island, but his loyalty to Rhett had never wavered. Now, with Mackenzie’s safety in his hands, he wouldn’t let her fall–not on his watch.

Mackenzie scanned the battlefield, her cold gaze assessing the situation. The decision to retreat was swift and resolute.

She knew what it meant–pulling back meant cutting off Rhett and Anna, who were still up the mountain pursuing the Great Four Envoys. Yet staying put would only spell disaster for the Wolf Warrior Unit. The enemy outnumbered them at least ten to one, and continuing the fight would be suicidal.

It was a hard call, but Mackenzie didn’t waver. She couldn’t afford to. Trusting in Rhett and Anna’s abilities to find their own way down, she ordered the retreat, unbothered by the thought of criticism later.

“After them! Capture Mackenzie Quillen alive!”

A booming voice echoed through the battlefield as a grotesque figure climbed onto a rock. It was the Toad King. His bloated, warty skin made him look more like a creature than a man. His long, slimy tongue flicked out as he barked orders, his eyes gleaming with twisted excitement.

“Absolutely, Toad King!” the cultists yelled, surging forward to pursue Mackenzie.
