Morning sunlight streamed through the beige floor to ceiling windows. It was a little too bright as it hit the bed. I woke up groggy, but after all that exhaustion, I really did sleep well, and I didn’t dream at all.

Nathan was already gone. I went to the bathroom, washed up, changed into a long, airy dress, and wandered out of the room, taking my time.

My whole outlook had changed. I wasn’t worried anymore about whether a man was still by my side or if he was still in the room with me.
