Chapter 135

Adair was still relatively young and didn't have much of an impression of the name Ziva, but she was shocked to learn that Evelyn herself would be mentoring Elara.

Before this, Adair had made some inquiries. Evelyn didn't usually take on mentees anymore. She didn't take on newcomers because she had her own affairs to tend to, and she rarely came to the firm.

Because of this, she didn't mind it when Adair was assigned to Hazel. But now, Evelyn herself was going to mentor Adair.

Hazel, hearing Evelyn's words, said, "Isn't that... a bit too much?"

Hazel was Evelyn's disciple. If it had been before, not knowing Elara's identity, Hazel probably wouldn't have had much of an opinion if Evelyn had decided to take on a mentee.

But after learning Elara's background, especially that she was Ziva's daughter, Hazel had softened considerably toward her.

At one point, because of the situation with Ziva, Hazel had decided to become a savvy, well-rounded lawyer focused on personal interests, but recently, thinking about Ziva had caused Hazel to reflect on her initial reasons for choosing this path. Evelyn replied, "Aren't you supposed to be mentoring Adair? Let me handle Elara."

"But you don't usually come to the firm anymore, do you?" Hazel pointed out.

When they needed something from Evelyn, she'd simply have someone else take care of it, saying she was too busy. Now, to everyone's surprise, Evelyn was returning to the firm to mentor a new disciple.

Evelyn replied, "I'll be coming in more often from now on." She glanced over at Elara, thinking, 'I can't trust anyone else with her'

It was rare for Elara to choose this path, and Evelyn felt lately that she should put more effort into helping her, if only because of Ziva.

While they were discussing this, Adair was fuming internally. She had originally planned to show Elara just how different they were, hoping that Hazel would start treating her better.

But now, instead of competing with her for Hazel's attention, Elara had directly become Evelyn's disciple. Everyone knew that Evelyn didn't take on mentees, yet she was making an exception for Elara.

Since it was Adair who had invited everyone out, she was the one paying the bill. However, when the time came to pay, Adair found herself unwilling to follow through.

As she thought back on the dinner, where she'd gained nothing for herself but had to watch Elara become Evelyn's disciple, she felt a wave of discomfort. Still, she couldn't back out now. She had invited everyone individually. Elara walked out with Evelyn. "Are you really going to mentor me?"

"Why?" Evelyn looked at Elara. "You're not willing?"
