Chapter 46: Blood and Betrayal

Chapter 46: Blood and Betrayal

(Elena’s POV)

The moment I answered the call, Patricia Blackthorne’s heart–wrenching cries filled the phone. “David… something happened to him!”

I was stunned. The phone nearly slipped from my trembling fingers.

My mind went blank, filled only with the echo of ringing in my ears. I rushed to the emergency room of the

Northern Territory Central Healing Institute.

Patricia was sitting on a chair, crying hysterically. Richard stood beside her with a grave expression.

In just a few days, Richard’s hair had turned noticeably white. He looked a decade older.

I stopped Pack Nurse Rachel and asked urgently, “What happened in the emergency room?”

The nurse’s face was pale. “It’s a case of severe intracranial hemorrhage caused by a beating. Dr. Harrison Mitchell is currently performing emergency surgery.”

Hearing that David was beaten in the Territorial Enforcement Station, I couldn’t believe it. How could this

happen under official supervision?

I stumbled into the Surgical Chamber. The healers initially tried to stop me.

“You can’t go in there!” one called out.

Upon recognizing me, they instead explained medical protocol. “Healers are not allowed to operate on their

own family members according to medical ethics. You need to trust Dr. Mitchell.”

I looked at the person on the operating table. My brother lay there so still, so vulnerable.

“I just wanted to help,” I mumbled.

Dr. Mitchell’s Medical Apprentice stepped forward. “As a healer, you need to remain calm in critical

situations. Do you even look like a healer right now?”
