Chapter 235: I’m Leaving Now, No Need for Him to Banish Me

(Elena Blackwood’s POV)

Late at night, when the gathering dispersed, it suddenly started raining. The medical staff stood under the eaves waiting for their vehicles, departing one after another.

Soon, only two or three werewolves remained at the venue. The rain drummed steadily against the courtyard’s stone pathways, creating small rivers that wound between the outdoor tables.

After the other doctors left, only Hugo and I remained. Dr. Edmund Fisher’s driver arrived, and he bid farewell to Hugo with a cheerful wave.

“Drive Elena home safely,” he called out, reminding Hugo as he hurried toward his waiting car.

Hugo turned to me, his scholarly features thoughtful in the dim light. He seemed to sense my unspoken thoughts and asked, “Do you want to ask me something?”

After hesitating, I finally voiced the question that had been haunting me. “Have you ever been kidn*pped as a child?”

Instead of answering directly, Hugo asked, “Did Marcus tell you something?”

My silence confirmed his suspicion. He nodded slowly, understanding passing across his refined features.

“I thought you would remember it yourself,” he said quietly.

I was surprised by his response. “Is that really you?”

My heart hammered against my ribs as the pieces began falling into place.

“But the news only announced…” I started.

“Only announced that there were two survivors,” Hugo finished for me with a gentle smile.

He explained calmly, his voice carrying the weight of old family secrets. “My family cared about their reputation and chose not to make it public.”
