Chapter 253

Jessica wasn’t the only one worried. Rebecca had been anxious too.

During that month they spent apart, every night before Rebecca went to sleep, she’d worry that bad news was waiting for her the next inorning. But she was always so worn out from the day that before she could dwell on it, sleep would take over and the worries vanished.

More than anyone, Rebecca hoped Jeffrey would keep his promise this time.

But deep down, she knew his behavior wasn’t just about breaking promises–it was a psychological issue she couldn’t ignore.

“My mom wants me to meet an important business partner tomorrow, so I probably won’t have time to go back to Jelasburg with you,” Jessica said. “Want me to have that jerk Ian go with you?”

Rebecca shook her head. “No, Mark’s good enough.”

Jessica nodded. “Alright, your bodyguard’s pretty reliable.”

“Yeah,” Rebecca replied, glancing out the window. She couldn’t see Mark from here, but she could totally picture him–always super careful, doing his job like a pro.

“Rebecca,” Jessica called out.

“Yeah?” Rebecca answered.

“Good luck tomorrow! Hope everything goes great,” Jessica said warmly.

“Okay,” Rebecca replied softly.

After their chat, they hung up.

Staring at the date she’d just crossed off on her desk, Rebecca weighed her options for a long time before finally making up her mind and heading over to Samuel’s play area. No matter how hard it was, she knew she needed to tell him that she and Jeffrey were getting divorced tomorrow.

She hung out and played with him there for about half an hour.

While Rebecca was still racking her brain about how to tell him without making it weird, Samuel suddenly looked up from his puzzle and said, “Mommy, is there something you want to talk to me about?”

Rebecca blinked in surprise. “How did you figure that out?”

“You’ve glanced over at me like, twenty times in the past half hour,” Samuel piped up, his voice innocent and a little mischievous. “That’s not normal for you.”

‘Honestly, Ian called it,’ Rebecca thought to herself.

‘My little Samuel really was born to be a detective, she marveled inwardly.
