Rebecca just stared back, at a loss for words.

She wanted to ask why he didn’t just come inside himself, but then remembered how they’d been openly cold toward the Quinns from the very beginning.

After watching his car drive away, Rebecca took the box and went inside, heading up to the study on the second floor to meet Amelia.

When Amelia saw her come in, she set aside what she was doing, her eyes full of worry for Rebecca. “You’re back. How did it go?”
