“Was it always that way for you, or did you just start thinking differently?” Rebecca asked.

She didn’t really need an answer, not really. Some things just gnawed at her deep down. If she didn’t get clarity, she’d toss and turn at night, stuck in that uneasy mood.

Jeffrey answered with conviction, “It’s never been like that. You’ve always been strong and capable in my eyes.”

They’d go from sharing everything to having nothing to talk about, from being each other’s one and only to being just someone on the sidelines. From truly mattering to each other, to being nothing important at all. From saying “I love you” to just “I’m busy.”
