“It didn’t work,” my father said, entering the living room where I was sitting.

I was reading through a book as I got lost in my thoughts, and I had to admit, I didn’t expect him to come to pay me a visit. The last thing that I would have wanted was a confrontation, and I did hope that Ademide, his wife, would keep him busy with one of her galas. Little did I know that the human was free for the evening.

“It will,” I said, closing the book. Ademide looked at me with a cold smile on her lips. I knew that she was mocking me, and I knew that it was something that she enjoyed doing.
