I slowly unwrapped my arms from around Katherine, gently laying her head on the pillow before covering her with a blanket. She had drained herself with tears, and I knew that the pain that she was in was great. No mother deserved to live the pain that she was in.

I kissed her forehead, letting my lips linger there for a moment too long before pulling away to look at her.

“I won’t let your tears dry in vain.” I whispered, taking a step back.

I walked toward the window and stood in front of it for a moment.
