Chapter 155

“Hello? Hi there, I’m Gwendolyn. May I ask who’s speaking?”

Gwendolyn’s voice was soft, her words floating out tentatively

There was a pause on the other end, a silence stretching out.

“Hello?”

Gwendolyn furrowed her brow, wondering if she had dialed the wrong number.

Just then, from the steam–filled bathroom, Howard called out, “Gwendolyn, time for your bath.”

“Coming!” she shouted back

The breathing on the other end of the line grew erratic, and the caller hung up abruptly.

How odd!

Gwendolyn didn’t dwell on it, placing her phone on the nightstand before heading towards the bathroom.

Inside the bathroom, steam swirled around her.

Howard’s suit jacket lay tossed aside on the vanity, his shirt sleeves rolled up to reveal the defined muscles of his forearms.

His usually indifferent eyes softened as he spoke, “The doctor said the cuts aren’t serious. Just keep your hands dry, and you’ll be fine.”

“Okay.”

Gwendolyn stood by, waiting for him to leave, but he showed no signs of moving.
