Chapter 0285

Ella POV

The intensity Alexander was showing both comforted and frightened me. The situation was undeniably dangerous, and if things went wrong, the consequences could be catastrophic. But his determination was unwavering, and I couldn't help but feel we might actually succeed.

Alexander had never let me down before, and I wasn't abou to start doubting him

now.

Still, the lack of information gnawed at me. We didn't know exactly where David was, what car he was driving, or what he hoped to accomplish. All we had were guesses.

He was connected to Dr. McIntyre-that much was clear-and eliminating her would protect him. That made sense. He didn't want to be recognized, so he'd taken a rental car. That made sense too.

But how did he know where she was?

We only knew because she'd told us herself. None of Alexandler's intelligence, none of his contacts, to locate her. So how had David managed it?

had been able

The implications were chilling. His connections to the Roguelands might be even more powerful than I'd feared. Perhaps someone within the Roguelands, someone who knew where the doctor was hiding, had decided to give David the information. I couldn't think of another explanation.

Then, there were the phonecalls Alexander had made. He knew more about what was happening than he was telling me, and I wasn't sure why. Wouldn't it be better for me to be fully informed? I could help more if I knew

more.

Did he not want my help? Or was there something here that he couldn't tell me, even in such a serious situation? Now wasn't the time to ask. I was just going to have to deal with the curiosity that was eating away at me.

Alexander was driving so fast that the scenery outside blurred, but it still felt like we might not make it in time.

It wasn't long before the buildings around us faded away, replaced by an expanse of empty desert. Dusty ground and jagged rocks stretched as far as the eye could
