“How’s that possible? You’ve already owed them a buttload of money, so why would they lend you any more?” Casper asked incredulously.

To his surprise, Terrence scrutinized his car and suddenly grabbed the hem of his shirt. “You mentioned earlier that you’re rich, didn’t you? Why don’t you lend me some money? I’ll win this time, trust me. I’ll definitely win!”

Upon hearing that, a deep frown creased Casper’s brow. My goodness, Terrence’s gambling addiction is beyond cure. He’s in such dire straits, but instead of mending his ways, he only wants to gamble more.

“Mr. Clauder, you’re already deep in debt, and there’s no way you’ll win your money back. Please give up on it. What’s Giselle supposed to do if you carry on like this?”

Alas, that only riled Terrence up. “So what?” he snapped. “I’ll win the money back sooner or later! I can, and I will!”

Casper knew Terrence’s addiction had spiraled out of control, and no amount of advice would help at that point. Unfortunately, the latter was still his future father-in-law, and he couldn’t possibly leave him stranded.

“All right, Mr. Clauder. Why don’t you head home to get some rest first? Once you’ve regained your energy, you can try your luck at the tables again. I’ll also give you as much money as you want.”

Terrence, however, gave a flat-out refusal. “No. I have to win my money back tonight. I’m so close to getting a win! Trust me. Lady Luck’s about to shine on me. When that happens, I’ll be able to recoup everything that I’ve lost!”

Even as he made those claims, Terrence held onto Casper’s arm like a dying man desperately clutching at his last lifeline.

Having witnessed the appalling behavior, Casper couldn’t believe that the man in front of him was the father of someone as kind and thoughtful as Giselle.

After pondering for a while, he finally replied, “I understand, Mr. Clauder. I’ll withdraw the money and take you there myself. I have faith that you’ll win everything back tonight.”

“That’s wonderful!” Terrence exclaimed as his face lit up. “You’ll only have to lend me five million, no, make that three million! Three million, and I’ll double it in one night. Everything will be settled in the morning!”

“That’s good to hear, Mr. Clauder,” Casper answered, having no choice but to play along. “Let me get the money. I’m positive that we’ll make a killing tonight! Mrs. Clauder will also regain her confidence in you when this is all over.”

At the mention of Giselle’s mother, Terrence suddenly froze up. “Oh, yes. Belinda will forgive me without a doubt. I won’t let her down…”
