Chapter 1838:

Still, Peyton wasn’t about to let her off the hook. She had made her mess, and she would have to own up to it. She had to beg him to stay.

“So, you decided to come after me?” he said coolly, locking his gaze on her. “Weren’t you just throwing a tantrum? And telling me to leave? Now that I’m actually leaving, what’s all this?”

Aileen didn’t respond. He took her silence as admission of guilt and forged ahead. “I’ve been too good to you, and you keep taking me for granted.”

Her quiet stretched longer, but instead of replying, she tightened her grip on him, her arms winding around him like she feared he’d vanish. He couldn’t shake her off.

“Don’t think this changes anything.” Peyton suppressed that fleeting satisfaction and forced his tone to stay icy. “I’m not forgiving you that easily.”

Still, she said nothing. And something in her silence made him uneasy. His hands found her face, tilting it up so he could see her properly. Her eyes were glazed, cheeks flushed with unnatural heat. She was practically burning up.
