The impatient honking from the cars behind snapped Frederick back to reality, prompting him to quickly maneuver his car to the curb. Turning to face Marguerite, his intense gaze seemed to be silently urging her for more explanations.

Marguerite's heart raced under his scrutiny. She knew deep down she really didn't have the right to bring this up with Frederick, especially considering their past and how her pregnancy with Maurice had been a catalyst in their fallout. Bringing it up now felt somewhat untimely.
