Chapter 217

Summer POV

For a week, I was on my toes all the time. Laura turned out to be such a spoiled brat that she demanded attention at every minute of waking hours Even the sleeping ones. Though she told me that we would be going for some Luna trials in a werewolf pack the next day, she informed me later that it was postponed by a week. The Mating Ball was not a selection criterion. It was just an introduction ball.

But still I couldn’t wrap my head around this werewolf thing. Did they even exist? Werewolves were mythical creatures.

The week that went by was spent in preparing Laura’s clothes, jewelry, makeup and other countless stuff that I didn’t know existed. She treated me like a slave and didn’t leave an occasion to shame me. I was too skinny, too ugly, couldn’t keep up with her, clumsy, a retard, and everything in between and then some more. Her constant disrespect to my emotions was a dampener on my spirits. But what could a girl do when her father was the one who disrespected her the most? Every time Laura addressed me with a negative adjective, I felt like bursting into tears or snapping at her. Once I snapped, and I was taken to a room where I starved for the day! Oh, they also beat me up. So that was my lesson. In one week, I had matured many years.

“Hurry up, will you?” Laura snapped at me in her shrill voice. “We’re getting late.”

It was the day when we had to finally go to the so–called Shadowfang pack. I imagined that it was a place with wolves everywhere, like in a jungle. A shudder ran down my spine. I really didn’t want to go and even suggested to Laura that she should take an experienced girl with her, but she didn’t agree saying that I had to follow her command, else she would make sure that I was six feet under the ground.

I picked up the heavy suitcases and took them to the car that was waiting for us as I cursed my father for the millionth time. As I blinked the tears from my eyes. I wish my mom had killed me in her womb.

“Let me take them,” said Bernard with a kind smile, the chauffeur who was supposed to take us to the airport. Taking the load off me, he hurried to the car where he placed all her suitcases in the trunk.

Laura came out, all prim and proper, looking like she was on a mission. Morelli, her father, followed her. “Pumpkin,” he said as he kissed her cheek. “This is very important for us. We need to make this alliance. And if we succeed, you can’t imagine the power we will yield in the mafia community. So everything’s on you.”

Laura straightened. “I know, papa,” she said excitedly. “I’ve spent many hours studying werewolves. On how to seduce them.” She patted his chest. “So don’t worry. I’ll win this, and get you an Alpha alliance.”

I stopped the urge to roll my eyes. If werewolves liked such spoiled brats, then they were made for each other.

Morelli turned to me with a stern face. “You better help her in every possible way, Summer,” he growled like a pig. “If she loses, then it will be on you. Get

I trembled under his gaze, wondering what he meant by this. “B–but-” How would I help Laura?

I remained near the car, staring at the plane. I had never been on one and I was sure that I’d puke once inside. Bernard came to me and in a low voice said, “I’m so sorry about
