Chapter 12

She pitied her father, wondering why he had fallen for someone like Penelope when he was younger.

Her father had originally been a restoration expert at the prestigious Valerian Academy of Sciences, skilled in the art of restoring ancient books, paintings, watches, and various artifacts. He was a well-rounded professional. While he might not have become incredibly wealthy, he certainly could have led a very comfortable life.

But Penelope had always looked down on his work, dismissing it as mere tinkering. She insisted that he go into business instead. Although her father was not fond of social interactions, he left his job and ventured into the business world for Penelope's sake.

Smart and sincere, he quickly made a name for himself in the antique trade. As the Sullivan family's business grew, his time at home dwindled. The last time Serena saw him was on a pristine white hospital bed.

With frail hands, Xander clung to her, saying, "Serena, all those antiques are yours. Remember, they are for you. Never... never give them to anyone! Not even your mother!"

At the time, Serena didn't understand what her father meant. It wasn't until the seventh day after Xander's passing, when she met Tyler and Bella, that she finally realized the truth. While her father was out working tirelessly, Penelope had already been carrying on with Tyler and even had a daughter with him. All the wealth her father had amassed ended up with Penelope, except for a villa full of antiques, which Serena held onto tightly. She had transported them from the north to the south, and then back again. These were the only things her father had left her, and she would protect them fiercely, no matter the cost.
