Chapter 138

Serena hesitated for a moment before finally getting into the car, glancing at Aaron who sat in the backseat. After tonight, they would never see each other again.

The car slowly started moving.

Inside, the silence was so intense you could hear a pin drop. No one spoke a word.

Victor, the driver, remained quiet because he knew Aaron's mood was far from pleasant. Even though Miss Sullivan had returned, it was hardly the outcome Mr. Vance desired.

Serena, sitting in the back, had no desire to speak with Aaron. She stared out the window, watching the beautiful town of Moonhaven fade away, replaced by the steel and concrete of the big city.

"It's late tonight," Aaron finally broke the silence, his deep, resonant voice filling the car. "You should stay at Rosewood Gardens."

"Mr. Vance, are you planning to back out?" Serena asked.

Aaron frowned slightly. "Is that how little you trust me?"

"How am I supposed to trust someone who goes back on a contract?" she
