Nyx had no idea when these guys had all come to an agreement. She couldn’t guess it right.

Zayne said, “Ten minutes. If you don’t guess correctly or give up, there’ll be a little punishment.”

With that announcement, Nyx tensed up, her toes curling in nervous anticipation.

She tried her hardest to focus, desperately wanting to know whose turn it was. But she just couldn’t figure it out.

Zayne announced, “Time’s up.”

Then came a fierce punishment. Luckily, the cubs had already been coaxed away to eat and weren’t lingering outside the bedroom. Otherwise, they’d be worried about Nyx all over again.

The second round of the game began.

Nyx really didn’t want failure again, but she had no sense of time. Panicked, she blurted out a name after just three minutes, “Jaws!”

Jaws chuckled and shook his head. “Nyx, you want it to be me that badly? That makes me really happy, but… unfortunately, you guessed wrong.”

“It’s me, Nyx.” Kian’s voice held a hint of barely concealed displeasure.

The consequence of a wrong answer needed no explanation.

Without giving Nyx any time to recover, the game continued.

She was like a lamb waiting to be slaughtered. She had lost count of how many rounds she had played–maybe the eighth or ninth–before she finally got one guess right by sheer luck.
