His gaze flicked up to the antique clock on the wall. “Punctual, aren’t you?”

Charlotte stood there, silent.

Looking at her cool, detached eyes–as if she bore some deep grudge against him–Evander let out a brief laugh.

“Not thrilled about moving back in, are you?”

She felt a bit lost in that moment.

The more she tried to figure out this man’s moods, the less sense he made. She honestly found it a little funny. “It’s not like you were ever that eager to share a roof with me, either.”

Evander’s smile faded. “So you care about the past?”

She didn’t answer, just asked, “I’ve agreed to move back. When are you going to sign the papers?”

He lounged on the sofa, thumb and fingers pressed to his forehead, looking utterly unconcerned. “Depends on my mood.”

Charlotte turned and headed toward the guest room. She was about to close the

door when his shadow blocked it.

Startled, she instinctively stepped back. “Evander, what are you doing?”

“What do you think?” In two easy strides, Evander wrapped his arm around her waist and swept her onto the bed, his lips finding hers.
