Regret Novel 236

After parting ways with Charlotte, Gentry headed straight to Judd’s office.

The moment Judd saw him, he noticed Gentry’s reddened nose, with a small wad of

cotton stuffed up his left nostril. Judd frowned. “What happened to you?”

Gentry plopped down into a chair, pointing at his nose. “Take a guess.”

“I’m not guessing.”

“You’re no fun!” Gentry leaned back, sighing. “Turns out Charlotte was married young. Her ex showed up today and started hassling her. I happened to walk in on it, tried to step in, and–well–took a hit for my trouble.”

Judd set his pen down and capped it. “Technically, he’s not her ex yet. They haven’t finalized the divorce.”

Gentry paused, surprised. “Wait, how do you know that?”

Judd got up and started tidying a stack of files, ignoring the question.

Gentry narrowed his eyes playfully. “Oh, I get it. You’ve been keeping tabs on Charlotte, haven’t you?”

“No,” Judd replied flatly.

Gentry shrugged at the denial. “She’s gorgeous, but I guess not everyone’s that lucky.”

Judd shot him a look. “And you are?”
