It wasn’t just Wesley who kept his distance from her.

Even the household staff seemed to go out of their way to avoid Loretta.

Wesley scooped a handful of feed and sprinkled it into the tank, watching the koi swim up to the surface. “If it weren’t for the DNA test, honestly, there’s nothing about her that reminds me of my sister…”

The DNA test…

As soon as the words left his mouth, something flickered across his mind—a memory, a suspicion. He fell silent, lost in thought.

Sean let out a sigh. “She was lost for over twenty years. The fact that she survived and was raised by someone else at all is something, isn’t it?”

“Father.” Wesley turned around, his tone steady. “Is there any way the test results could be wrong?”

Sean paused, frowning. “They ran the test twice. What could go wrong? You think someone tampered with both results?”

Wesley latched onto that last point.

The first test in Riverspire City had been done at a private lab. After they returned to the Capital, he’d had Julian take Loretta to the city forensics office for another test. Two different agencies, same result.

If anyone had tampered with the tests, they would’ve had to slip past Julian’s watchful eye.

A stranger probably couldn’t pull that off.

But what about someone familiar?

Wesley left the master bedroom, phone in hand. He dialed Julian, voice low. “Who was with you both times during the testing?”
