Charlotte watched as he walked toward her, his tall figure blocking out the light.

“Do you really want to go through with this divorce?”

It wasn’t the first time he’d asked her that. But this time, his voice sounded different–soft, almost pleading.

Charlotte froze for a moment, her gaze drifting to the curtains swaying behind the room divider. “Were you just in there?”

“Yes.” His eyes darkened. “I heard everything.”

She drew a deep breath. “Evander, we should have ended this a long time ago.”

“Why?” He stepped closer. “Is it because I’m still looking after Hans? I know you’ve never liked him, so I registered him under Linette’s name-”

“You think this is about Hans?” Charlotte met his eyes, her voice steady. “Evander, I could never resent a child. This was never about him. Even if Hans didn’t exist, you’d still ignore me for Tricia, still make my life miserable–wouldn’t you?”

His breath caught, and his eyes reddened. “Can’t you…just give me one more chance?”

“I gave you six years. Isn’t that enough?” Charlotte tilted her head back, fighting to keep her emotions in check. “Evander, didn’t you always wonder why I married you? Haven’t you always wanted the truth?”

“Loretta didn’t save you./She took my place, I was the one kidnapped. I was the one who spent eight days in that hell.”

Evander’s whole body went rigid.
