Chapter 15 What He Had Lost Was His Heart
“There are some clues now,” Kerwin said mindlessly.

“That’s nice,” Nick then finally laughed, “I’ve been wondering, you know, how exactly would you repay her? I thought you would marry yourself to her or something, but I didn’t know you’ve sold yourself already.”
Kerwin simply ignored Nick’s cheeky banter.
Nick knew he had made a fool of himself and looked very awkward, but when his eyes fell on the wheelchair under Kerwin, they still couldn’t help but flicker. “Well… Kerwin, did you tell Betty about your legs?”
Kerwin’s attention was already on the reports that had just been submitted by the finance department, but his hand on the mouse paused when he heard this question.
“No,” he answered in a low voice a moment later.
“Kerwin, I’m not trying to lecture you but,” Nick frowned slightly. “Whatever the purpose of your marriage with Betty is, she’s your wife now. Are you planning to keep her in the dark forever? Perhaps…”
Nick took a pause, before he summoned his courage and continued, “Maybe you should at least try and see if you can accept this new wife. You can’t just live in the shadow of your past for the rest of your life, right?”
He knew pretty well about Kerwin, who had always said his marriage to Betty was nothing but a way
of handling the pressure from his old man at home. However, if the woman had not been somewhat attracted to him, he would never have accepted the marriage and lived under the same roof with
her.

Kerwin kept silent and didn’t answer Nick’s question before he finished reading the reports and
said the following words:
“Once you’ve seen the best, you’re blind to the rest.”
That caught Nick off guard.
He looked at Kerwin’s indifferent face, and a trace of pity flashed in his eyes.
The car accident ten years ago had been a nightmare for all of them.
Everyone thought that what Kerwin had lost in that car accident was his legs.
But in fact, they were all wrong.
In that one car accident, what Kerwin had lost were not his legs, but his heart…

When Betty came home from work, she saw James and Maria walking into the living room with their suitcases.
“Maria, James, what are you guys doing?”
“Mrs. Martin, our son is getting married. We are going to his wedding,” said James kindly.
“Oh, congratulations to you guys,” said Betty, “How long will you be away?”
“It’s in Chicago, and there will only be a party after the wedding. We’ll be back tomorrow night” Maria smiled gently, but when her eyes fell on Kerwin, there was a little concern in them. “It’s just that, if there’s no one home, there will be nobody to prepare Mr. Martin’s breakfast for him.”
Betty felt a little awkward.
The Martins aren’t rich for nothing. It’s just breakfast and they have someone specially invited to
prepare it!
“That’s okay,” Kerwin spoke up, interrupting Betty’s thoughts. “You know how to cook, right, Betty?”
