Chapter 42 Her Sister’s Threat
Although Betty and Emily were half-sisters, they had grown up in different environments and rarely saw each other, so they were estranged from each other.
Especially after Emily stole Jeffrey away from Betty, Betty didn’t want to pretend to be friendly to Emily anymore. And she didn’t know why Emily was calling her.
“Betty,” Emily’s sweet voice rang out from the phone. “You don’t seem too happy that I’m calling
you?”
“There’s nothing to be happy about,” Betty said in an impatient tone. “Shoot. What do you want from me?”
“I’m calling you because I have some good news to tell you,” Emily said, “I’ve heard that Gianna seems to be doing better?”
Betty’s heart sank.
How did she know so much about my mother’s condition?
“What’s wrong?” Her voice turned even colder.
“Gee! Betty, don’t be like that. After all, I do care about Gianna too,” Emily said in a hypocritical tone. “That’s why I was worried about Gianna once I heard that her medical bills had increased. I wondered how I could help you.”
Betty sneered. “So how?”
“I happen to know a girl who owns a magazine. And her company lacks the staff, and the pay is very good.” Emily finally said what she came for.” You are so talented. If you work there, you’ll get better pay than you do now.”
Emily wanted me to resign from Filson Magazine to avoid getting back together with Jeffrey.
After figuring out Emily’s motive, Betty sneered. “Emily, are you so worried that Jeffrey and I will get back together?”
Emily’s face turned pale when she heard Betty say such frank words.
She bit her red lips and said, “Betty, what are you talking about? How could I possibly worry about a married woman like you who sleeps around for money?”

Betty’s face stiffened for a moment.
It was predictable that Emily would say the cruelest and meanest words in such a sweet tone.
Betty said in an icy tone, “Emily, whatever your motive is for introducing me to this job, I won’t accept it.”
She knew Emily too well. And she didn’t believe she would be treated any better if she worked at that new magazine. Besides, she was afraid that Emily would control and bully her.
After being rejected by Betty, Emily looked furious and said in an angry tone, “Betty, how dare
you!”
“Oops, you’re pissed off so soon!” Betty sneered. “Don’t worry. I’m not interested in Jeffrev at all.
so you can let your guard down.”
Emily was so angry that she wanted to scream!
Betty, you b*tch! Do you think you are so clever at playing hard to get?
“Betty!” Emily ripped off her mask of hypocrisy and said bluntly, “I told you to leave this magazine. Otherwise, don’t blame me for taking action against you!”
Betty sneered. “What action? Emily, what the hell are you going to do?”
Hearing Betty’s words, Emily put a cruel smile on her face. “I can make you go to hell.”
Betty’s heart trembled as she heard Emily’s cruel words spoken in such a sinister voice.
But Betty quickly said in an impatient tone, “Whatever! Anyway, I need this job, and I’m not interested in your husband at all!”
After saying that, Betty hung up the phone.
Emily’s beautiful face twisted when she heard the busy tone coming from the phone!
Betty, I’ve left you a way out! Since you rejected me, don’t blame me for ruining you!
Emily quickly called someone.
“Hello, it’s me.” Emily’s voice sounded cold and grim. “Send out all those photos. Right, email them to Jeffrey. Be careful, and don’t let anyone find out.”
After Betty hung up on her, Emily was so angry that her red nails almost dug deep into her palm!
Emily still remembered the first time she met Jeffrey.
Jeffrey always thought she first met him at a cocktail party six months ago, but he didn’t know she had met him three years earlier.
Emily was studying at Yale University at the time. And she happened to go to Washington to hang out with her friends. And her father asked her to bring something to Betty. Although she was reluctant to do so, she had to do as she was told.
Then she ran into Betty and Jeffrey.
She remembered that the sun was shining. And Jeffrey was riding his bike while Betty was sitting on
the back seat. He was wearing a clean white shirt and looked like a prince out of a comic book.
She was attracted to him at first sight.
Her meeting with Jeffrey at that time was very brief. And Betty and Jeffrey probably had no impression of her, but Emily put Jeffrey in his heart.
