Thane returned late. He paused at the door, his eyes trailing down me.

“No,” I lied, but one look at him told me he saw through that, “yes,” I admitted.

“I’m sorry,” he apologized, but there was no promise that he would go gentle next time. He had warned me, just so I could prepare myself. Yes, it was more than I could ever prepare for, but at least I knew what I was getting myself into.
