Chapter 149 You Care About Him

“Annie, are you okay?” I asked, feigning concern.

She looked flustered, tugging at her dress in an attempt to cover up, but it didn’t help much. In the end, she could only force a weak smile. “I tripped, that’s all.”

“I see.” I chose not to expose the lie and instead offered kindly, “Why don’t you rest in my room for a bit? I have some ointment that might help. If the bruises leave scars, that wouldn’t be good, right?”

“That would be great, thank you.” Annic nodded, clearly still shaken from whatever had just happened with Joseph.

I led her into my room, retrieving the ointment from a drawer and handing it to her.

“Thanks,” she said, seeming genuinely grateful.

I casually brought up, “How are things between you and Bruce?”

Her face instantly dimmed at the mention of his name.

“We’re not together anymore,” she admitted, her voice laced with sadness and reluctance.

“What happened? Was it because of that incident at the banquet?” I asked as though I weren’t particularly invested.

Clenching her jaw, Annie spat bitterly, “It’s all Rosaline’s fault! She’s the reason everything fell apart!”

I raised an eyebrow as if just realizing something. “So, Rosaline was behind everything that night?”

“Yes, it’s her!” Annie’s hatred was evident in her expression.

“What’s so special about Rosaline?” I scoffed. “Besides playing tricks to attract men, what else can she do?” Narrowing my eyes, I added, “If you want Bruce back, there’s a way.”
