Following the direction of my finger, everyone saw the fresh claw marks on the trunks of a few large trees not far away.

“Those marks? They look like Rosaline’s!” Yura’s voice was unusually excited as she rushed toward the tree.

Shaken, I quickly took off, running with long strides.

Reaching the base of the tree, I could see clearly–deep scratch marks carved into the bark.

Yura touched the marks excitedly and said, “These marks are fresh. They must be the distress signal Rosaline left for us before the avalanche!”

A wave of hope and joy rose within me. I spoke in a low, firm voice, “Since Rosaline left us a distress signal, she must be nearby. Let’s search around!”

Heidi bit her lip, frowning. “But it doesn’t look like anyone’s been here. This place is wide open; there’s no sign of people, unless they’re hidden under the snow.”

“No, Rosaline must be just a little further from here!” I said with certainty.

I had a strong feeling that we would find Rosaline soon and save her.

A pang of regret tugged at my heart.

Rosaline had left such an obvious signal for help–why hadn’t we noticed it sooner?

Her situation must have been desperate, and she left the marks hoping I would come to rescue her.

Yet it had taken so long to find them. It had been 48 hours since Rosaline went missing.

I couldn’t wait any longer!

“Why did it take us so long to find Rosaline’s distress signal?” Yura asked, her voice filled with frustration.
