Lying lifelessly on the ground, the fallen horse had bled out completely. Just looking at it sent a chill down my spine.

“Take me over to have a look,” Rosaline whispered near my car. “Mr. Wood said these were old horses, and he wouldn’t be wrong about that. Elderly horses rarely have such bursts of energy–unless they’ve been drugged.”

“You suspect someone tampered with it?” I frowned. Something indeed felt off.

It was too much of a coincidence–every time something went wrong, it involved Rosaline’s props..

“Yes.” She nodded firmly.

I led her closer to the fallen horse. She lifted its eyelids for inspection, then examined its tongue. Her expression turned grave.

“Just as I thought,” Rosaline said coldly. “The horse was drugged.”

“Then the culprit behind this … ” I murmured, contemplating.

Her eyes narrowed slightly. “It must be the same person who’s been trying to harm me.”

Just then, Jasper arrived, bringing the horse’s owner along.

The owner, already aware of what had happened, rushed to explain, “I swear this has nothing to do with me! I even starved these horses for a few days beforehand so they wouldn’t be energetic. I never expected something like this to happen!”
