Half an hour later, I stormed out of the hospital, my heart a boiling storm of fury.

I stood at the curb, hands shaking with anger, and flagged down a taxi

I was just about to open the door when Caden’s imposing figure emerged from the shadows, his strong hand gripping my arm with a force that stopped me in my tracks.

“Rosaline, don’t go!” His voice was low, edged with constand

I whirled to face him, my voice fuming. “Caden, let go of me.”

His jaw clenched. The lines of his face hardened with frustration. “Rosaline, what do you Why can’t you forgive me? I didn’t fake being disabled on purpose. I just needed to know if you really

His tone cooled, growing flat, almost cold. “Yes, I should’ve thought about your feelings. I lied. But I’ve apologized. Why are you still pushing me? It’s a small thing. Why blow it out of proportion?”

I shot him a venomous look. “Apologies? If apologies worked, there wouldn’t be so many people seething with rage around us!”

Caden’s face tensed, his hand tightening in frustration. You’re being unreasonable. Stop acting like a child and come back with me.”

“Acting like a child?” A bitter laugh escaped me. “You don’t love me, Caden. If you did, you wouldn’t have lied, and you wouldn’t speak to me like this. You’re still holding on to Tessa, aren’t you? You never let her

go.

“Fine. If you don’t trust me, then we shouldn’t see each other anymore. Let’s end this. It’s over.”

With that, I shoved him aside, slamming the door shut The taxi sped off, leaving him standing there, alone in the street.
