The nurses rushed in and carried the unconscious Heid onto a stretcher before wheeling her toward the emergency room.

Rosaline had warned me that she might not actually be Tessa, but until I had undeniable proof, I couldn’t just let her die.

Lost in thought, I barely noticed a nurse hurrying out of the emergency room.

“Mr. Holbrook, do you know the patient’s family?” she asked anxiously.

I looked up at her. “What’s the issue?”

patient’s condition is quite serious,” she said cautiously, intimidated by my presence. “The doctor found a large shadow in her stomach. There’s a possibility it could be a tumor. We need to conduct a full examination, but we require a family member’s signature.”

I frowned. Just go ahead with the tests.”

With that, she turned and hurried back into the emergency room.

Hours passed and the setting sun bathed the hospital in a deep orange glow by the time Heidi was finally wheeled out. Her face was deathly pale and she was still unconscious.

“How is she?” I asked, casting a glance at her frail form.

The doctor let out a long sigh, his voice heavy with regret. “Mr. Holbrook, we’ve received the results. The patient has late–stage stomach cancer. At best, she has around two years left with chemotherapy. If she chooses not to receive treatment… she may only have a month.”
