A few days later, I was deep in sleep when a sharp voice jolted me awake. Thrice’s anger echoed from the main room.

“Someone! Get in here! The brats ran off”

The sound of hurried footsteps filled the air, followed by my father and stepmother’s curses.

“Find them! Find them fast! Damn it, we were so close-”

I jumped out of bed, my heart pounding. I dashed toward the main room, just catching sight of the frantic adults rushing out, clearly searching for the kids.
