I forced a smile and deflected, “Maybe it’s just from brushing up against something. It’s fine. I’ll clean it up when I get back. Sorry about that. Let me just send a quick message to my friend.”

Taking advantage of the moment when no one was paying attention, I pulled out my phone and sent Anthony a message. “I’ve met a woman recently named Anna, who just came back from Hoorn. Can you look into her for me?”

The reply came quickly. “Got it.”

Dinner didn’t wrap up until around 9:00 p.m. Despite the doctor’s repeated warnings for Jasper to avoid drinking too much while recovering, he was quite drunk by the time we left, his body slumping heavily against mine.

“You all go ahead. I’ll drive him back.”

After saying my goodbyes to the crew, I finally managed to get Jasper into the passenger seat. I drove him back to the villa, took the keys from his jacket pocket, and opened the door. I half–dragged the inebriated werewolf to the bedroom.
