In his emotional spiral, he opened his phone to their message thread. Her profile picture–that radiant smile–made it feel like she was still by his side. Only these traces of her existence could

offer him any semblance of peace now.

His trembling fingers traced her image. Their last exchange was from two nights ago–his desperate explanations about the pack feast. But Sarah hadn’t responded.
