Chapter 47

(Angel's POV)

The speakers crackled to life and static filled the silence in the corridors. My heart skipped a beat and everyone around me froze. Announcements like this were rare and every time they happened, it was never good news. "Attention all patients," a voice echoed through the center. It sounded cold and detached like they were reading from a script. "Due to recent developments and a potential health scare, all residents will be confined to their dormitories for the next seven days. This is for your safety and well-being. Any attempt to leave your designated area will result in severe consequences. Please cooperate and further instructions will be given as necessary."

The voice clicked off and left a heavy silence. I felt a chill run down my spine as I looked around and met the worried gazes of my dorm mates. We all knew what this really meant. This wasn't about our safety. It was about control. "They're lying," I said in a whisper.

"What else is new?" Cylan muttered and rolled her eyes as she dropped onto her bed. "This place is nothing but lies."

"I hate this," Hande groaned and paced the room. "Why now? Why all of a sudden?"

Charlotte spoke up and her voice trembled. "But what... what if it really is eh... health scare?"

Dilara snorted and crossed her arms. "Yeah, right. More like a 'let's keep them from finding out what we're really doing' scare."

I sighed and rubbed my temples. "Look, we just need to stick together, alright? We've handled worse."

"You say that," Cylan pointed out, "but the more we stay here, the more it feels like a prison."

"It is a prison," I replied sharply. "And the sooner we realize that, the sooner we can find a way out."

Silence fell over the room and it felt thick with all our unspoken fears. No one said it, but we all knew this week would change everything.

...

Later that evening, I stepped out of the dorm, desperate for some air. My thoughts were a mess and my heart raced with every beat. I heard a shuffle of feet and glanced up to see a figure waiting in the shadows. "Hendrix?" I whispered and barely believed my eyes.

He stepped forward and had a ghost of a smile on his lips. "Hey."
