Maja’s attention snapped to the conversation as she caught a glimpse of the exchange. Walter caught her eye and raised an eyebrow with a slight grin, “So, Beck told me you guys are heading to Forbidden Island?” She nodded. That was the address Eric had given her, and she’d been digging around for information, but the trail was cold. Walter’s fingers were playing with a slip of paper, his demeanor cool and collected. “Turns out I might have a lead that could help you out.” Maja’s eyes lit up, “Thanks.” “Don’t mention it. You’re Dylan’s little sister, which makes you my little sister too.” He smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. Just like Beck had said, a smiling tiger. She didn’t respond to that, instead focusing on the clues listed on the paper. Walter’s info was a game-changer and the kind of stuff they couldn’t find online. Handing the paper to Ian, Maja noticed the recognition between him and Walter, though they pretended to be strangers. Clearly, they had crossed paths in North America, and it wasn’t as friends. “Ian?” Maja called out, sensing the tension. Ian didn’t say much, just pulled her closer. As they were about to leave, Tomas spoke up, his gaze shifting between Ian and Eric. “Test subjects, test subjects, all test subjects.” “One succeeds, one’s discarded, test subjects.” His words cast a chilling air over the room. It was then Patric burst out, “Shut up!” His head was pounding, a cacophony of voices screaming in his mind, flashes of scenes he couldn’t quite catch. Damn it, he couldn’t remember it. Ignoring everyone else, he staggered to the door, as if escaping a torturous presence. The others looked to Ian, who blinked and chuckled, “Why look at me?” Maja frowned, her grip on Ian tightening. Ian patted her head reassuringly, “It’s all nonsense. We’ll rest up for a day, then head to Forbidden Island, and take Patric with us.” Maja was uneasy but nodded
