She let out a sigh, and heard Patric echo it with one of his own. “Maja, I wanna go home, leave this island, head back to Greenfield Gardens.” With a motherly gesture, Maja shoved a cookie into his mouth. “Eat up. We’ll talk once you’ve had something in your stomach.” She dared not leave their makeshift shelter under the bridge, especially during daylight. Who knew where those thugs might be lurking? Escaping with two kids in tow was a fool’s errand. After munching on a cookie, Maja told Quentin to catch some Z’s. But Quentin asked, “You planning on heading out tonight?” “Yeah, I need to check on those goons from last night. There seemed to be two factions; one after me, the other caught up in some infighting. his hair, “Quentin, why ask about it? Do you want it? It’s dangerous.” He shrugged off her hand, his eyes darkening. She was likely lying. She wouldn’t leave something so important in that yard. A cold smirk danced on his lips. It seemed he’d have to rely on her capture tonight. Only torture would loosen her tongue. He had given her a chance, and she failed to appreciate it. “I got it, Maja. Go ahead, I’ll take care of Patric.” If trouble didn’t come knocking tonight, Patric would continue to
