Chapter 2232

Tonight, it felt like Maggie had thrown caution to the wind. She knew Marlon was already furious, yet she kept pushing, right there in front of everyone.

The others in the private room were itching to escape; after all, nobody wanted to be caught up in this mess. They all knew better than to get involved, but Maggie's words came so fast, nobody had a chance to slip out.

Marlon's gaze swept the room, his eyes holding a glimmer of amusement-or maybe it was just a shadow of a smile.

"If you don't mind, I'd like a moment alone with Maggie."

Marlon had always been the center of attention in this group. Whether for his personal prowess or the might of the Keller family, he was the one at the top. At his words, everyone immediately took the hint and hurried out, leaving just Maggie and Marlon in the room.

Marlon poured himself a drink, taking his time, as if he hadn't noticed Maggie's nerves at all.

"Go on, keep talking," he said, his voice smooth and unbothered.

Now that they were alone, Maggie had nothing left to say.

Everything she'd blurted out earlier had been for the benefit of the crowd-to save face, to make sure people stopped gossiping about her being dumped. She'd hoped to shift everyone's attention to the Keller family's illegitimate daughter instead.

But now, with just Marlon here, Maggie fell silent-until something came flying at her. She jerked her head aside just in time. It was a bottle.
