Connor left, and Claire felt a chill run down her spine, as if she had been pulled into a decades-long whirlpool of darkness. Chloe was waiting in the car for Connor. As soon as she saw him step out of The Garden, she drove over to him.

Connor slid into the car, looking troubled. "Didn't I tell you to stay at home?" he said.

Chloe's voice was soft with concern. "I was worried about you."

Connor's heart softened at her words. He turned and wrapped Chloe in a tight embrace. She didn't quite know what was going on, but she could feel the slight tremble in Connor's shoulders. Gently, she patted his back, trying to soothe him. "Did you have a fight with her? Don't let it get to you. She's not worth it. You've got me, and that's all you need."

Connor buried his face in Chloe's long hair, the familiar scent and warmth finally easing the tension in his body. "Chloe, you're not going to leave me, right?"

Chloe was taken aback by Connor's sudden vulnerability but reassured him tenderly, "I won't. I never will."

"You need to be by my side forever."
