Chapter 11

At Joycelyn’s insistence, Ellison drove until they found a secluded spot almost a quarter–mile from the dealership. After all, when you marry someone, you accommodate their quirks.

“Why don’t I browse alone while you wait in the car?” Joycelyn suggested.

His silent exit and door slam answered that. She secured the wooden box in her arm and fumbled another mask from her purse. “Could you please wear this?”

Though displeasure flashed across his face, he complied. His silence made her hyperaware of maintaining a respectful few steps‘ distance as they walked.

“Hi, can I see the compact model?” Joycelyn asked.

“Yeah, what’s available now?” Joycelyn rushed, mortified at making him waste time in this modest showroom.

Ellison scanned around the place and clearly wasn’t impressed. He strolled over to Joycelyn, who was listening to the sales pitch.
