Chapter 6

She had already considered intimate life when choosing Lyman as her husband.

Effie wasn't the type to be overly dramatic, nor did she cling to old-fashioned ideas about marriage.

Still, they'd only just met-there was so much more to learn about each other.

Lyman glanced at her, noting her bashful expression, and a subtle smile flickered at the corner of his mouth.

Remembering the phone call from earlier, he asked, "Do you need my help?"

"You... don't have to. I can handle this myself. Just give me a little time, please. Don't worry I'll make it clear to Mitchell that we're done." Effie hurried to reassure him.

Lyman was a bit surprised. Wasn't it common for women to want their husbands to step in on their behalf?

"Alright. In three days, I'll have my assistant pick you up. Pack your things, and when you're ready, you can take me to meet your grandmother."

"Okay." Effie nodded, feeling a wave of gratitude.

They'd only just met and already married, yet he was considerate enough to put her grandmother first.

Effie found herself comparing him to Mitchell. She and Mitchell had dated for years, but he'd visited her grandmother only a handful of times—and even then, he was always impatient to leave.

Looking back with clarity, Effie realized how blind she'd been to so many things.
