I took a deep breath, trying to find some peace within myself, and looked at him. “You’ll get past this. You’re amazing, and someday you’ll find someone you truly love. You’ll build a new life, and all this… it’ll just be a tiny chapter in the story of you. Maybe one day, it won’t even be worth bringing up.”

I was not just saying it to make him feel better–I believed it. We were both young, with so much life ahead of us. We would find new people and start over.
