The big bald man wasn’t ready to give up yet. He slammed his foot on the brake again and again. But then, the back end of his car smashed into the guardrail, and he had a sinking feeling in his stomach.

“Ah! Help me! Help me! He yelled, rolling down the window, his voice barely reaching through the rush of wind as the car swerved halfway up the mountain. Within seconds, his face was drenched in tears.

As it passed, the bald man caught a glimpse of a child’s face through one of the car windows.

Her bright eyes stared at him–calm and emotionless. There was no fear or smiles. It was just the empty look of someone who was already saying goodbye.

The bald man froze. He remembered her from earlier. Just before they went into the lounge, he’d seen her for a split second when he turned around to light a cigarette. She had been standing right by their cars.
