Chapter 207

Zebulon received the news about the Briarwood University Young Scholars Program gathering this morning, but he had just gotten a notification from Glenn and had forgotten all about it.

This girl was an aerospace engineering major and was quite familiar with him. They often attended small classes together, and she had helped him sign in for many lectures.

“We haven’t started yet. Why don’t you join us?” the girl invited him.

Zebulon had just broken free from a really toxic crowd, and Viola seemed like a breath of fresh air. Plus, he remembered Quinlyn hadn’t eaten yet. “Sure, let’s go,” he said.

“This way,” the girl said, grabbing her camera from her car. “This is the first time, the whole Briarwood crew is together. Even the big three are here. We should take a group photo. I’m just worried those three won’t be into it…”

Zebulon was surprised. The Briarwood program was usually dominated by kids from their city, due to the educational

resources.

But this year was different. Three new kids had joined from the south. One was the heir to the country’s richest family, but he was no spoiled brat. He knew his stuff–human anatomy, mechanics, the works.

Another was a hacker who’d started a company and even joined a government agency. He was a bit of a troublemaker, but incredibly capable.

And then there was the third, a guaranteed admission student working with the Briarwood Research Center. He was a quick learner, picking up new skills faster than anyone else.

Zebulon himself had been considered an elite student and was no slouch among his peers, but after a month of competing with those three, he almost died from exhaustion.

It made him deeply question how people could be so rich and hardworking. So, he had asked for a few days off to recover.

But now, seeing Quinlyn’s eager face, he decided to use this as a chance to show her what real competition was like. He didn’t notice her grin. “Come on,” he said. “Let me show you what it means to be out of your league.”

The private room was on the first floor. As the door swung open, the room was alive with chatter and laughter. Dishes had just been laid out, and everyone was sipping sodas. These were teenagers, after all–they blended together quickly.

“Come on, Stanley. I bet you’re the type to smoke and drink in secret.”
