Estelle spun around abruptly, her eyes catching a menacing figure charging toward her in the dim light. In each hand, they brandished a bottle of sulfuric acid, one after the other, flinging them viciously at Estelle and her friends.

“Ella!”

Jonathan sprang into action, rushing forward to pull Estelle into his arms, wrapping her protectively with his heavy coat.

Almost simultaneously, Gabriel’s towering frame reached them. Seeing Estelle yanked away by Jonathan, he grabbed Sylvia’s hand and spun, embracing her tightly and shielding her with his body.

Evelyn was left alone, her eyes widening in horror as a bottle of acid hurtled toward her face.

“Evelyn!”

Estelle shoved Jonathan aside and leapt forward, kicking the bottle away and tackling Evelyn to the ground beneath her.

The last acid bottle grazed the tops of their heads, smashing against Jonathan’s car with a loud “bang,” its corrosive contents splattering all over.

Estelle clung to Evelyn, her back hand singed by the acid, a searing pain coursing through her skin.

All of this happened in a flash—a mere moment from the bottles being thrown to their explosive impact.
