The sky over New York was just beginning to lighten when Jason's phone buzzed with a message from an unknown number. He unlocked the screen and glanced at it—his dark eyes growing colder, sharper than the early spring dawn.

There were dozens of photos, all of them of Sophia Jones and Robin Ziegler.

Sophia stood at the front desk of her studio, arms full of fresh flowers, her smile radiant and carefree.

In another, Robin and Sophia were together outside an office building in the fading light of evening.

One shot captured Robin gently reaching out to touch Sophia's cheek, his gaze soft, almost tender. Sophia's head was bowed, dusk painting her lashes with the day's last blush of gold, her expression tinged with melancholy.

The photos were stunning-light, people, and scenery blending perfectly. It was as if someone had pressed pause on a movie.
