They ate breakfast together, and by the time they finished, Eugene's clothes had arrived.

His assistant followed him into the guest room, pulling fresh clothes from a shopping bag as he spoke. “Mr. Winters, your mother called me last night. She wanted to know if you really went on a business trip."

Eugene rubbed his temples. Last night, there was no way he could have gone home, so he'd called his mother and told her he was away for a few days on business. He hadn't expected her not to believe him— she'd called his assistant to double-check.
